Maintain your cooktop and it will last years!
A cooktop is a great addition to a kitchen. Many people install them when designing a kitchen or during renovations. Like all appliances, though, it is important to know how to take care of your cooktop properly. Fortunately, cooktop maintenance is pretty simple. Here are a few tips for caring for your cooktop, both through regular upkeep and addressing any problems that may arise.
Keep It Clean
A major source of problems with cooktops is the buildup of grease and other cooking grime. Ideally, you should clean your cooktop after each use, especially when it is visibly greasy. Residue and grime from cooking can affect the electrical switches on your cooktop’s gas valves and can actually get in the way of flame output.
Different Types of Cooktops, Different Cleaning Needs
Like any kitchen appliance, all cooktops should be kept clean, but the simplicity of the cleaning process will depend on the type of cooktop you have. If you have a gas cooktop with sealed burners, you’ll have an easier time with upkeep than with open burners. Glass surfaces are the easiest to clean and can be wiped off with window-cleaning spray or other household cleaning products. Don’t pour cleaner directly on the cooktop; always first apply it to a cloth or damp rag.
Gas Cooktops and Flame Levels
A common problem with gas cooktops is that the flame is either too high or too low. This can be adjusted by locating the slotted screw which controls flame height. With a flathead screwdriver, you can turn the slotted screw to give the flame more or less gas.
